The most glamorous Hollywood event happened over the weekend, The Academy Awards. These five actresses not only dazzled with their gorgeous gowns, but with their lovely jewels too.

Penelope Cruz is that classic beauty that echoes Old Hollywood. And she did just that with her gorgeous grey/blue silk chiffon Armani gown and pretty Chopard diamonds. Penelope chose classic flower-shaped studs for the occasion, not distracting too much from her glamorous gown.

Newcomer and Oscar nominee, Jessica Chastain, made a red carpet statement in an embroidered black and gold Alexander McQueen gown. Her beautiful red hair was in that effortless half up/half down up-do, with little citrine Harry Winston drop earring peeping out.

Australian knockout and star of Bridesmaids, Rose Byrne, dazzled in a sparkling Vivienne Westwood gown. She also had the chicest hairstyle of the evening, a sharp little Anna Wintour-like bob. Her earrings of choice: pretty tassel chandeliers by Chanel.

One of our favourite gowns of the evening belonged to Michelle Williams who wore a stunning, and very girly, Louis Vuitton, featuring a peplum detail at the hip and many cascading ruffles. But what we loved the most as the little bow brooch at her waist -- just lovely!

Speaking of bows, we adored Emma Stone's Giambattista Valli gown. Emma went light on accessories, opting for tiny ruby earrings and a Louis Vuitton chain link bracelet. But really, the bow was everything! So fun; just like her style.

During London Fashion Week, Rihanna was a guest at Stella McCartney's aftershow, wearing a dark teal Stella McCartney spaghetti strap gown. Again she brought gold accessories to spice things up, pairing not one but two gold chokers. We would probably just stick to one statement piece, like Belle Noel's dagger necklace.

We doubt she'll be at the Oscars this weekend, but we are looking forward to seeing what she wears next!

Ladylike fashions returned to spring runways with a slight vintage feel. We saw pretty 1950s-inspired looks from Prada and Jil Sander, and return to the 1920s jazz age from Louis Vuitton. Oscar de la Renta and Nina Ricci embraced soft feminine hues in their collections worthy of a princess. Their delightful jewellery left us swooning for all things sparkly and feminine.

Jil Sander enlisted Erickson Beamon to supply jewels for the house's S/S collection. The theme was 1950s ladylike stylings, reminiscent of our vintage hero, Sherman.

The awards season is here, meaning that we are swooning over all the gorgeous red carpet fashions worn by Hollywood A-listers. Last night at the Golden Globes, there were many beautiful gowns, but eye sharp little eyes were on the stunning jewels.

Have you been tuning into Gossip Girl this season? The storyline is a little all over the place, but our favourite girls are looking as fabulous as always. Blair has adjusted her already impeccable style and added a royal twist to it, like fascinators (almost like headbands, right?) and pretty ladylike jewellery.

Our jewels have been making so many magazine appearances, we're starting to blush a little over the attention. From fashion glossies like Harper's Bazaar, U Magazine, and Flare, to the ultimate lifestyle guide, Time Out, to a celebrity must-read OK! magazine, to countless online features, everyone is talking about Sophie's Closet.

Our Joomi Lim spike bangle and our CC Skye 'Can't Buy Me Love' ring were featured in the latest issue of Harper's Bazaar Arabia, with one and only Janet Jackson on the cover.

OK! Middle East (October 13-19 2011)

And we got lots of love in OK! Middle East, with a two-page feature of Sophie's Closet, so wonderfully titled the "Treasure Trove."

OK! highlighted some of the glamorous pieces featured on Gossip Girl (a personal favourite of ours) like the Amrita Singh crystal drop earrings (as seen on Serena) and Siman Tu's stunning butterfly necklace (as seen on Blair), as well as his turquoise chandelier earrings (as seen on Lily). They also couldn't resists our rarities, such as the vintage Trifari bracelet (as seen on Olivia Palermo), and beautiful picks from Chanel and Sherman.

They didn't stop there! We have big, big news! Sophie's Closet is now carrying beautiful vintage pieces from the Carole Tanenbaum Collection. For those of you just tuning into the world of vintage, Toronto-based Carole Tanenbaum is the reigning queen of vintage costume jewellery. Having collected exquisite trinkets for almost three decades, Carole Tanenbaum's collection has accumulated to over 20,000 pieces, about $3,000 which she keeps in her personal collection.

She provides jewellery for countless editorials for magazine like Vogue and Elle, for stylish TV shows like Sex and the City and Mad Men, and for red carpet celebrity appearances, from Sarah Jessica Parker (who owns over 400 pieces from the Carole Tanenbaum Collection), to Natalie Portman, and Michelle Obama.

One of our favourite websites, The Coveteur, recently did a profile on Carole's jewellery closet, and it's wow -- just wow! So much so, that on her recent trip to Toronto, Sophie couldn't resist picking up a few things.

Lastly, these sparkling darlings are by Larry Vrba, whose pieces are just exquisite. He began his career as a head designer for Miriam Haskell in the 70s, and in the 80s started his own line. Along with creating intricate baubles for his glamorous costumers, Vrba also creates custom pieces for the Broadway stage -- jewels so striking that they stand out even from the back row.

Winter is a great time to amp up the glamour. Magazines are doing some of the most dazzling editorials right now as we prepare for end of the year celebrations and galas. We are seeing a lot of statement chandelier earrings with jewelled tones: some that are dark and mysterious like black and Sapphire blue, and some brighter shades like jades and emeralds.

Dark jewels are stark, minimal, and incredibly elegant. We just received these beautiful sparkling pave ones from Noir. And we can never get enough of Siman Tu, of course.

Writer Nora Elias and photographer Isidora Bojovic wonderfully capture the nature of Sophie's sense of aesthetic, that is very much the basis of Sophie's Closet. Check out the full article below!

Sophie sits in an armchair in one corner of the living room, a fresh and light space filled with flower patterns and soft pastel hues

As you walk into Sophie Katirai’s home you’re immediately struck by how gentle and quiet it is. Centrally located just off Satwa Road, no traffic noise or other disturbances reach the peaceful confines of the villa and, for the time being at least, not a bark is heard from the four dogs currently in residence. Steeped in feminine themes and patterns, walls painted a muted pastel pink or covered in delicately pretty flowered wallpaper, antique and antique-inspired furniture in pink and white and exquisite teacups beautifully arranged, it’s instantly relaxing. A little like stepping into an English country home, in the middle of busy Dubai.

The perfect hostess, the soft-spoken Sophie greets us with tea and miniature cupcakes as we sit down for a chat in the home she shares with her husband of eight years, Bayan, and their three dogs (the fourth is on loan, the couple is currently ‘dogsitting’ for Sophie’s grandmother). The creator of Sophie’s Closet, a successful online business selling vintage and designer jewellery, Sophie’s interest in unique one-off pieces is not limited to jewellery. In fact, it’s evident all around us. “A lot of the pieces come from Canada,” Sophie explains, of items such as the antique teacups and saucers gracing the top of a cabinet in one corner of the living room and visible from behind the glass doors of another. “My dad was a collector so many things are pieces that he bought for me or that came from his collection.”

While her father would, from an early age, buy her “these beautiful antique porcelain dolls,” Sophie admits that she didn’t appreciate them as a child and that her own love of antiques is something that has only really developed in the past ten years. “It started with colourful teacups because I’ve always loved colour. So out of all the beautiful things my father had, I only liked the teacups,” she says. Her interest in period items has continued to blossom and while the majority of the collection her father left her is currently in storage in Canada because “they are all big pieces, statues and other things that I would just be too afraid to bring here,” she plans to one day decorate her home with them.

Coming from a family of collectors, it was not only Sophie’s father who had a passion for antiques. The interest is shared by her uncles, who have been known to add to Sophie’s beautiful collection of teacups and crockery. “My uncles and the whole family on my dad’s side all love art and antiques, my uncles still travel to places like France and Italy to find things and come back talking about them. My house has nothing compared to the pieces you see in their homes,” she says. Teacups, the items that first inspired her to add her own pieces to the collection passed on to her by her father, remain at the heart of Sophie’s interest in antiques and she explains that she has largely been “buying pieces that look similar to what he used to buy for me.”

While there is very much a romantic, vintage feel to the interiors of the house, Sophie, who studied graphic design at college, says she doesn’t buy with anything specific in mind, instead simply acquiring things that catch her eye. “I know it when I see it,” she says. She is adamant, however, in her belief in the genuine article, including the value of original, hand painted porcelain over the machine produced variety – commenting that “I don’t like fake stuff, it upsets me.” Continuously making small tweaks and changes to the décor of the house and sourcing new pieces, Sophie says that although she loves doing this, it’s a slow process. “I’ll often think, oh I want something over there, then I first come up with what would look good, in my head, then go online and find it and then either get it or find someone to make it for me. It takes time.”

Asked if she has any favourites among the many beautiful items in her home, Sophie highlights a series of paintings by American artist Vanessa Valencia. “I shop online a lot and I came across a painting that I really liked. I contacted the artist and she made these especially for me, each one taking two to three months to do.” Though she didn’t request any particular motifs from the artist, Sophie explains that when Valencia’s work arrived, they blended perfectly into her home, featuring “cupcakes, teacups, and butterflies; things I love.” While her husband didn’t initially share her interest in interiors and antiques, this is something that has changed over the years. “Now he likes it and he helps me find things,” Sophie says. “If I’m in a shop and I pick something up [that he doesn’t like], he’ll say ‘I’m not sure about that, it looks cheap’. He’s been amazing.” Dubai’s online jewellery queen, Sophie’s thriving business grew out of her determination to track down gems seen on shows like Gossip Girl and on favourite style icon Olivia Palermo, initially for personal use. “It started with me sourcing things that I saw on celebrities; finding out who it was by, contacting the designer and looking at the rest of their collection,” she says.

What began as a personal pursuit eventually morphed into what is today Sophie’s Closet, in operation since 2008. “When it started it was me buying for myself but then I realised that it was actually hard, that I had put in a lot of work to find these pieces and that there were probably others who would like to find them but hadn’t been able to. So then I decided that I wanted to share these things with everyone,” she says. With an extensive selection that includes pieces by contemporary jewellery designers as well as a vintage section, Sophie explains that she only stocks “vintage items that are in very good condition, excellent quality pieces from 40-50 years ago. We usually only have one of each, they are one-of-a-kind pieces.” Now expecting her first child, Sophie says that although her mother has already bought an antique chair for the baby’s room, this may be one room in the house not decorated with antique pieces. “It might be vintage-inspired though,” she says with a smile. -- Nora Elias

Award winning designer Eddie Borgo combines traditions of American costume jewellery with inspirations taken from Rock and Roll, and its New York scene in particular. Having created custom pieces for designers Tabitha Simmons and Phillip Lim, Eddio Borgo launched his own line in 2009. Since, his pieces have become must-haves for every serious fashion connoisseur and featured in every single magazine from Vogue to Elle to Harper’s Bazaar. Last year, he won the CFDA award for Accessory Design. Borgo is also known for his own personal style, mixing classic menswear with rock and roll sensibilities.

It's fashion week time and our favourite street style photographer, Tommy Ton, has been busy snapping fashion industry's most fashionable. Sure, we love the shoes and the bags, but our eyes are always on the jewellery. And, it seems like Tommy Ton also has a penchant for jewellery.

We've noticed a lot layering of multiple bracelets and bangles (although, maybe not so functional for office work, haha). We're thinking an array of Chan Luu's and Rachel Leigh's friendship bracelets, with some glam from LeiVanKash to complete the look.

We especially love how this image and the stacking of five large bangles, paired up with this stunning beaded bag. So colourful and fun! To get the look, find a couple of big chunky bangles like this one by Vita Fede.

Bracelets aside, we also love styling with multiple rings. This image focusing on blues and greens (with yellow nails!) is making us pull every colour of Rachel Leigh's 'Gumball' ring out of our drawers.

And, we spotted Noir's 'Brooklyn Bridge' ring, looking very chic in autumn colours and accompanied with that giant silhouette pendant.

This edgy punk-rock inspired look is very elegant, not too hard. As you know, we can never pass on a good spike. Again, we are pulling out all our Noir and Joomi Lim bracelets out of our drawers.

While the images from Chanel's F/W presentation may have look dark and gloomy as a whole, there was such immense beauty in the details. Especially the romantic way the models' hair was styled with gorgeous little pins and combs. The chignon, a classic French hair hairstyle, was pulled over to one side and decorated with floral-themed hair pieces.

Every single style icon has at one time or another worn Miriam Haskell. In business since 1926, this jewellery line has been a favourite of Hollywood icons, society women, and even royalty. As one of the first female designers she, together with Coco Chanel, Hattie Carnegie and Schiaparelli, popularized costume jewellery, making it as covetable and chic as fine trinkets.

Lanvin is definitely one of our favourite runway collections for the fall season. Of course, Alber Elbaz always does beautiful clothing, but this time we couldn't take our eyes off the jewels. Opulent and vintage inspired florals took centre stage against the backdrop of crisp and sculptural tailoring. Since we are always in for a little floral action, we are all over this look.

This summer has been a season of some pretty epic weddings. We have seen two young women become princesses and one fashion princess become rock royalty.

It's also been a refreshing time for wedding gowns, moving away from the strapless princess gown and towards a different silhouette: a one with sleeves and shoulder details. And we, of course, loved their accessories. Unfortunately we can't all be princesses and supermodels, but we have some ideas on how to get the look of one.

First was Kate Middleton, now Duchess of Wales, in an Alexander McQueen lace gown which was an absolute perfection: very conservative, but very modern and romantic at the same time. Her Cartier "Halo" tiara from 1936 that she "borrowed" from the Queen kind of left us speechless. Okay okay, the little drop earrings were pretty too!

Then there was Charlene Wittstock who married Prince of Monaco last week. Her Armani Prive gown was so chic, so simple and so modern. She opted not to wear a tiara, and instead wore several floral pins or combs that were nesting on her chignon.

Kate Moss also got married last week! We have to say that her wedding looked a lot more fun than then the royal ones. Everyone seemed so happy, relaxed and casual. Her earrings were simple little pendants and she wore a sole thin diamond bracelet. She really is always so effortlessly chic, never overdone.

One of the most elegant women in the world is Canada's Suzanne Rogers. Not only that she has impeccable taste in clothes, but, after seeing her feature on The Coveteur, she also has impeccable taste in, well...everything! As a fan of pastels shades, all things frilly, all things Chanel and Vivier, coupled with a little bit of an edge by McQueen, she is an ideal Sophie's Closet style icon.

We wish we could jet over to New York just to see this exhibition. "Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art looks so breathtakingly beautiful! McQueen, never being one to take a conventional take on fashion, always looked to historical events and figures to create his narratives. The result was often a strong female figure, also with a sense of certain fragility.

Being a great couturier, each garment consisted of such intricate delicacies, whether it was beadwork, lacework, pleats and ruffles, feathers, or even real flowers sewn onto the garments.

The garments are so beautiful, we could stare at them forever. It's hard to believe how much this designer accomplished in such a short lifespan.

There is spectacular jewellery too, or more like body armour, really. Hopefully, we will soon be able to see it in person. For now, we'll have to settle for the exhibition catalogue.

CARTIER 'Panther' Bracelet (sold for £4.52 million)

We can credit the late Duchess of Windsor for popularising animal-themed jewels. Hew opulent panther bracelet, designed by Cartier for their “Great Cat” series and gifted to her by Prince Edward, caused quite a fashion stir in 1952. Needless to say, every woman wanted one (and her own Prince too). Soon after, designers like Kenneth Jay Lane began making pieces inspired by the famous cat. Her Cartier panther was recently sold at an auction for £4.52 million and rumour has it that it was purchased by Madonna.

While many designers take inspiration from vintage, Lulu Frost designer Lisa Salzer actually uses vintage pieces to create contemporary looks. She grew up in a family whose business is in estate jewellery so she has a very sophisticated eye when it comes to vintage. Her work is very much a collage of old and new. All the pieces stay true to their glamours past.

The tassel met the height of popularity during the jazz age of the 1920s and 30s. Many women also wore the necklaces backwards to accent their backs. Lulu Frost's tassel necklace is a flawless mixture of antiquity and modernity.

Louis Vuitton S/S 2011

This season many designers focused on the glamorous and playful 1920s flapper look, most notably Louis Vuitton. And, naturally, there were many tassels and fringes involved! It's probably an understatement when we say that we are kind of obsessed with tassels at the moment.

Of course there is no need to wear them with matching dresses. They can be worn with anything: little black dresses, summer maxis, blouses, t-shirts and jeans.

We love the emphasis on rich golds here. Summer always calls for some serious gold! Very subtle and elegant looks.

Unique and sought after jewellery preferred by our style icon Olivia Palermo is hard to obtain. But since we are so in love with her style, we have been searching the globe! Her legitimacy in the magazine industry may be debatable (did she really work for Elle or was it all fake?), but Olivia Palermo can definitely put together an outfit to die for. We admit that we fast forward through most of The City except, of course, when Olivia was on. We can watch her do just about anything for half an hour as long as she looks fabulous. Someone give this girl her own show!

She shops anywhere and everywhere, from Zara and TopShop to Chanel and Hermes to New York City's eclectic vintage shops. Every serious fashionista collects vintage. And, this is what separated Olivia Palermo from all the other characters on The City (and The Hills). While everyone else seemed very pedestrian fashion-wise, Olivia was always refined and well-accessorized. This is not due to her superior financial situation, but rather to her incredible knowledge of costume jewellery and willingness to shop everywhere. "My aunt [Linda Donahue] is a costume jewellery expert, so I understand that it's just as valuable as real jewellery," she told Page Six.

She frequently visits stores like Topshop and Banana Republic for costume jewellery that resembles vintage. "When I have a replica of a vintage costume piece, I put it in the sun and let it age for a month, just to have it tarnish,” Olivia told Time Out New York. She also frequents New York City's vintage spots in search of statement pieces. Olivia masterfully mixes vintage with contemporary pieces. We love how she combined her CC Skye (her favourite!) "Starburst" bracelet with a vintage Trifari. Known for bright and colourful gems, Trifari dates back to 1918 and is highly coveted by vintage collectors like Olivia.

Other pieces sought by vintage hunters are by Ciner and Hattie Carnegie. Ciner dates back to 1892, with pieces so intricately made that it is often mistaken for fine jewellery. For most fashion enthusiasts, Hattie Carnegie needs no introduction. This legendary fashion entrepreneur started out as a milliner and soon expanded her business to clothing and jewellery, garnering a loyal following by many style icons including the Duchess of Windsor. We just received an incredible Hattie Carnegie bracelet with green and red glass surrounded by rhinestones and faux pearls and matching earrings and the stunning green gem and rhinestone necklace and earring set by Ciner.

Vogue Australia did kind of a tropical bohemian theme here by layering of several necklaces. It's a stunning look and it really works! Gold in different shapes, turquoise flowers and beads are impeccably mixed together. We think we'll be trying this look.

Here is a different take on bohemian by French Revue de Modes. Again, a mix of turquoise and gold but with a little bit of a rock n' roll edge with the studded bracelets. We especially love the antique looking belt.

Keeping things fairly simple but adding several pops of colour may be the main theme this season. Same goes with jewellery, especially chunky bracelets and bangles. We love the styling in Harper's Bazaar Australia: the layering of several simple necklaces and bracelets. Still remains very minimal.

We were featured again in Harper's Bazaar in both January and February issues. And in such great company too, with Nicole Kidman and model Lily Donaldson!

Colour shopping editorials are always so much fun! For the February issue, Harper's Bazaar focused on bright fuchsias, summer-y corals, sunshine-y yellows, and romantic violets. We fell in love with LeiVanKash immediately upon seeing the gorgeous Olivia Palermo wearing a beautiful gold rose ring from the label. LeiVanKash is brainchild of Leila Kashanipour, a recent graduate from the famous Central Saint Martins School of Art and Design in London. Even before graduating, Leila began making her mark in the world of jewellery. Her pieces have already landed on the pages of ELLE, Tatler and Grazia, and will soon be arriving at Sophie's Closet. We recently caught up with Leila to discuss her inspirations, her personal style and future aspirations.

LeiVanKash Gold 'Olivia' Rose Ring (AED 1,520)

You went to Central Saint Martins School of Art and Design. Why did you decide to study jewellery?
Well I was very much interested in Fine Arts, specifically painting, when I applied to CSM for my foundation year. I thought that painting was what I wanted to pursue until I took a jewellery course. That's when I fell in love with the making process, the attention given to detail and giving an identity to each piece. So I applied for jewellery design for my BA and the rest is history!

What inspires your designs? Are you influenced by the art and design of your native Iran?
I get inspiration from everywhere! The way I feel, the gemstones I use, colors, nature, fine art and etc. For example vanitas paintings and memento mori were the initial inspiration for my 'Skullmania' collection. And of course, a lot of my pieces such as the 'Persepolis' collection is inspired by my Iranian background and culture. I tend to give my pieces an antique finish as if they were from the days of the Persian Empire.

Do you have certain designers that you admire?
I love the fine jewellery at Dior. There is so much creativity going on there -- it's breathtaking. I am also a huge fan of the Wendy Yue at Annoushka!

How would you describe you personal style?
Hm, hard one! I think I am what happens when London, New York, LA and Paris come together! As one of my good friends puts it "you are a hippie at heart, and your style is a mix between edgy boho chic and total rock chick."

What is your favourite piece from the collection?
The first piece I ever hand carved and my long-time favorite is the 'Olivia Rose' ring. It's very boho cool and it never goes unseen or without a compliment! My skull bracelet never comes off and has kinda become an extra organ. But each piece is special in its own way and they have all received a token of my love at one point.

What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?
I was so honored that Olivia Palermo wore the now called 'Olivia Rose' ring and loved it! But I get proud whenever I receive feedback from supporting friends and fans who appreciate the work that I do!

Do you have any future plans that you can share?
My website is coming to life very soon and I am super excited about that! And on a totally different topic, I becoming a Mrs in July. The rest you will have to wait and see!

We just got back from a little visit to Kenneth Jay Lane's New York showroom. If there is jewellery heaven on Earth, this must be it. With over 30,000 pieces on display, our hearts were melting and our eyes were glistening with happiness. We are glad to report that Mr Kenneth Jay Lane works at the studio and takes time to chat with clients. We just adore him!

With decades of his work on display, and each piece lovelier than the other, we couldn't resist but to make a huge order. Yes, huge!

Kenneth Jay Lane is a jewellery legend and we firmly believe that every woman should own a little something by him. He was a favourite of the elegant Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, the glamorous Elizabeth Taylor, the stylish Vogue editor Diana Vreeland and the divine Audrey Hepburn. He made costume jewellery cool and his pieces are now considered by many as collectible as precious gems, with vintage pieces selling at Christie's and Sotheby's. Among his fans is our style muse Olivia Palermo.

She may have started her career on some rocky terms but, year by year, Kim Kardashian has proven herself to be quite a stylish figure and a great businesswoman. Kim recently introduced her jewelry line, Belle Noel, in collaboration with Pascal Mouawad, and we took notice.

Inspired by Old Hollywood stars like Vivien Leigh and Sophia Loren, as well as 1970s fashion icons like Julie Christie and Lauren Hutton, Kim's jewelery is very powerful and bold (just like her). The line is extremely wearable and can easily be dressed up or down. “I wanted to create a line where you could go from day jeans to a cocktail party effortlessly without ever having to change your jewelry,” says Kim.

All the pieces are gold plated and are quite striking, especially on Kim against her long beautiful black hair.

One of the most striking, and innovative, pieces is the hair chain that one can wear over a long ponytail, or even dangling under a chignon. It reminds us of something Cleopatra would have worn.

Another really amazing piece is the intricately woven 'Dagger' bracelet with crystal spikes. As Kim intended, this one would make for a perfect companion to a pair of jeans and a blouse as it would to an evening gown.

Belle Noel earrings range from small gold and crystal studs to big (and we mean BIG) drop earrings. We especially love the 'Nugget' earrings. They are so glamorous and have a vintage 1930s feel. A bit of 80s retro is always fun but we like to keep it contemporary and hip (no spandex for us). 80s were all about glam punk so we paired a pretty yellow Halston dress with our Vita Fede and Joomi Lim spiked numbers. To glam it up just a touch, we added statement pieces like CC Skye's "Femme Fatale" earrings and multiple Vita Fede snakeskin bangles. Very retro but not over-the-top.
